Nigeria and Rwanda have agreed to deepen bilateral relations following talks between President Bola Tinubu and President Paul Kagame in Kigali.The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in trade, diplomacy, regional integration and economic development as both countries seek stronger partnerships under Africa’s growing continental trade framework.
Both leaders pledged to revive the Joint Permanent Ministerial Commission to strengthen collaboration across key sectors including commerce, investment, education, technology and infrastructure development. The commission is expected to help accelerate implementation of bilateral agreements between Nigeria and Rwanda.
President Tinubu also revealed that Nigeria may consider reciprocating Rwanda’s existing 30-day visa-free entry policy for Nigerians. Analysts say the move could improve business travel, tourism and people-to-people connections between both countries.
Nigeria And Rwanda Push For Stronger Regional Integration
Discussions between the two presidents also centred on trade expansion and implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area framework. Both countries stressed the importance of reducing trade barriers and increasing intra-African commerce to support economic growth across the continent.
The renewed engagement comes as African nations continue to prioritise regional partnerships, economic diversification and cross-border investment opportunities amid changing global economic conditions.
